We’re making the Pakenham Line level crossing free by 2025, removing 22 dangerous level crossings to improve safety, reduce congestion and run more trains more often.

As part of the Progress Street Level Crossing Removal Project, works are continuing to build the new road bridge, connecting Progress Street and Fowler Road.

What we’re doing

In March, we’ll continue works along Progress Street, Fowler Road, Nathan Road and Hallam Valley Road. Works will include:

  • service relocations and connections on Fowler Road and Nathan Road
  • line marking and signage installation on Fowler Road and Hallam Valley Road
  • vegetation removal and pruning on Fowler Road
  • water mains investigations on Fowler Road
  • service investigations and temporary driveway construction works for access to properties on Progress Street
  • road closure and roundabout construction on Nathan Road
  • road surfacing and lighting installation on Hallam Valley Road.

Our general work hours are from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and 7am to 3pm Saturdays, with some out of hours works when required.

Upcoming disruptions

Fowler Road

  • Temporary footpath works will take place in stages along the south side of Fowler Road from Tuesday 11 February to Friday 21 February. At times, sections of the Fowler Road westbound lane will be closed. Access will be maintained via shuttle flow onto the eastbound lane.
  • Temporary footpath and parking at 13 Fowler Road will be open to the local business precinct on Saturday 22 February.
  • Line marking works will take place overnight under traffic management from 7pm, Thursday 13 March to 5am, Friday 14 March. From Friday 14 March no standing or parking will be permitted on Fowler Road. Parking will be available at 13 Fowler Road.

Nathan Road

  • Closed between number 67-91 and 120 to undertake 24-hour roundabout construction works from 7pm, Monday 31 March to 7am, Tuesday 15 April. Access will be maintained for Australia Post vehicles only. A vehicle turnaround point will be available via the eastern driveway of 67-91 Nathan Road.
