30 January 2025
We’re making the Pakenham Line level crossing free by 2025, removing 22 dangerous level crossings to improve safety, reduce congestion and run more trains more often.
What we’re doing
As part of the Progress Street Level Crossing Removal Project, works are continuing to build the new road bridge, connecting Progress Street and Fowler Road.
In February we’ll continue works along Progress Street, Fowler Road, Nathan Road and Hallam Valley Road. Works will include:
- temporary footpath construction on the south side of Fowler Road. Please see below for more details
- service relocations and connections on Fowler Road and Nathan Road
- temporary car park works at 13 Fowler Road
- service investigations and temporary driveway construction works for access to properties on Progress Street.
- drainage, road surfacing and line marking works at Hallam Valley Road.
Our general work hours are from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and 7am to 3pm Saturdays, with some out of hours works when required.
What to expect
- Increased construction activity, noise and vibration.
- Ongoing temporary road shoulder and lane closures in the area.
- Parking restrictions and traffic management on parts of Hallam Valley Road and Fowler Road.
- Third party service relocations and connections on Fowler Road and Nathan Road. Impacted businesses will be contacted prior to expected services disruptions.
- Access to businesses and driveways may be interrupted at times, we will work closely with businesses to minimise impacts.
Fowler Road temporary footpath works
From Tuesday 11 February to Friday 21 February, we’ll build a temporary footpath along the south side of Fowler Road. These works will take place in 4 stages along Fowler Road, starting from Eumemmerring Creek and working towards South Gippsland Highway.
At times, sections of the Fowler Road westbound lane will be closed to allow works. Access will be maintained via shuttle flow onto the eastbound lane.
Traffic management will be in place to help you move around the area including traffic controllers and porta booms. Access to driveways will be maintained.
From Saturday 22 February, the Fowler Road temporary footpath and temporary parking at 13 Fowler Road will be open to the local business precinct.
