9 May 2025

We’re making the Pakenham Line level crossing free by 2025, removing 22 dangerous level crossings to improve safety, reduce congestion and run more trains more often.

As part of the Progress Street Level Crossing Removal Project, works are continuing to build the new road bridge, connecting Progress Street and Fowler Road.

What we’re doing

In May, we’ll continue works along Progress Street, Fowler Road, Nathan Road and Hallam Valley Road.

Works will include:

  • road closure of Progress Street to reconstruct existing road to match into the new Fowler Road bridge
  • works on Progress Street will include service locating, demolishing existing asphalt and kerb, earthworks, road and footpath construction, drainage installation, asphalting, public lighting, line-marking and landscaping
  • watermains investigations, excavations, drilling, trenching, pipe and pit installation and connections on Fowler Road
  • asphalting and line-marking at the new Nathan Road and Hallam Valley Road roundabout.

From late June, we will start work to reconstruct and signalise the intersection of South Gippsland Highway and Fowler Road. This will involve a closure of South Gippsland Highway for approximately 2 weeks in July. Detours will be in place and more information will be provided.

Our general work hours are from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and 7am to 3pm Saturdays, with some out of hours works when required. Some night works on Progress Street and Fowler Road will also be required.

Upcoming disruptions

Fowler Road

  • No standing or parking permitted on the north side of Fowler Road until further notice. Existing parking conditions remain on the south side. Alternative parking is available at 13 Fowler Road.
