27 March 2026
The Cranbourne and Pakenham lines are boom gate free, with all 27 sets of boom gates removed, and 12 new or upgraded stations delivered along Melbourne's busiest train lines.
We've closed the level crossing at Progress Street, Dandenong South and built a new road bridge connecting Progress Street to Fowler Road, providing businesses access to the South Gippsland Highway.
The Fowler Road and South Gippsland Highway intersection has also been upgraded and signalised to improve traffic flow, safety and ease congestion along Fowler Road.
We have also upgraded Fowler Road with new indented parking, improved street lighting and a new footpath, improving safety and accessibility for all road users.
What we’re doing
Now that the project is complete, we’re preparing to reinstate local roads in the Dandenong South industrial precinct. As part of this, the temporary detour connecting Hallam Valley Road and Nathan Road will be permanently closed at 6am on Monday 13 April 2026.
On Hallam Valley Road and surrounds, we will complete the following:
- Removal of temporary traffic management controls and reinstatement of road signage to existing conditions
- Reinstatement of boundary fencing, gates and lighting.
