The Victorian Government is removing the level crossing at Station Street, Officer. This level crossing has been fast tracked for removal, with 22 to be removed on the Pakenham Line making it boom gate-free by 2025.

Major works to remove the level crossing at Station Street, Officer will begin in May 2024.

Station Street and Officer South Road vehicle access across the railway line will be permanently closed from Saturday 18 May. Traffic will be redirected to alternate routes via the new Brunt Road bridge and Siding Avenue.

Throughout May and June we will undertake works including:

  • Removing the boom gates at the level crossing, install rail safety fencing and continue site set up works, while no trains are running during a closure of the Pakenham Line from Friday 17 May.
  • Installing site offices and temporary fencing within the project area.
  • Constructing new footpath connections north of the rail line.
  • Undertaking minor vegetation removal.
  • Continuing service investigation and relocation works.

Permanent road closure

From Saturday 18 May the following permanent changes will be in place.

  • Station Street and Officer South Road vehicle access across the railway line will be permanently closed.
  • Traffic will be redirected to alternate routes via the new Brunt Road bridge and Siding Avenue.
  • Pedestrian access across the railway line at Officer Station crossing will remain open.
  • Vehicle access into Officer Station will be maintained via Officer South Road south of the rail line only.

Train disruptions and Officer Station car park closure

During an upcoming closure on the Pakenham Line, we’ll work during the day and night in the rail corridor while buses replace trains on sections of the Pakenham Line from 10pm Friday 17 May until last service Sunday 2 June.

While no trains are running, vehicle access to Officer Station car park will be closed, pedestrian access will remain open. Alternative parking is available at Cardinia Road Station.

New shared use path construction

The project will provide  a new pedestrian path to connect existing paths on either side of Station Street, north of the rail line.

We'll work closely with Cardinia Shire Council to build a shared use path along Officer South Road, improving safety and access to Officer Station. Please follow wayfinding and detour signage while we complete these works.

What to expect

  • Increased construction personnel, vehicles, and equipment in the area.
  • Permanent road closure, detour and changes in place.
  • Increased noise and vibration.
  • Traffic management including reduced speed limits and intermittent lane closures in place at times, please expect minor delays.
  • Local pedestrian footpath detours maybe in place at times, please follow directional signage in place.
  • General working hours are Monday to Friday from 7am to 6pm and Saturday from 7am to 3pm.
