7 August 2025

We’re upgrading Ballarat Station to improve accessibility, safety, and connectivity for all public transport users, while considering the heritage of the station.

The project will be complete in 2026 and includes an accessible pedestrian overpass, with a lift and stairs to each platform, and an upgrade to the northern station entrance.

Major construction at the station is progressing well and the upgraded and fully accessible northern station entrance works are now done, with only minor completion works taking place this month. The upgraded entrance features new stairs, a ramp, handrails, automatic swing doors and landscaping.

Additionally, the large steel frames for the lift shafts have recently been delivered to the works area on the northern side of the station. Our crews are working to complete the lift shafts before they are craned into place late this year. Over the coming weeks we will continue to bring large steelwork frames to the station and build the foundations for the lifts, stairs and pedestrian overpass.

What we’re doing

In August 2025, we’ll:

  • deliver the large steel frame for the pedestrian overpass to the works area on the northern side of the station
  • carry out preparation and fit-out works on the large steel frames for the pedestrian overpass and the lift shafts in the works area on the northern side of the station
  • install steel supports for the northern stairs
  • prepare the foundations for the steel supports for the southern stairs
  • instal lighting and carry out minor completion works at the upgraded northern station entrance.

What to expect

While we work in Ballarat Station you may experience:

  • moderate noise levels
  • minimal vibration
  • construction vehicles in our project site areas and surrounding roads.

When we’ll work

  • Between 9.30am and 3.30pm on weekdays until Friday 22 August, the northern station entrance may be intermittently closed to safely facilitate minor completion works.
  • Between 12am and 5am, Tuesday 12 August, we’ll transport the large steel frame for the pedestrian overpass into the works area on the northern side of the station via truck with an oversized load.
  • Traffic management will be in place when the truck arrives at the station entrance. Please follow the instructions of traffic management staff at all times.
  • At other times, we’ll work Monday to Friday 7am to 6pm and Saturdays as required 7am to 1pm.
