6 March 2025
We’re upgrading Ballarat Station to improve accessibility, safety, and connectivity for all public transport users, while considering the heritage of the station.
We’re delivering an accessible pedestrian overpass, with a lift and stairs to each platform, and upgrading the northern station entrance in 2026.
We’re continuing to prepare for major construction, which will begin in March when we start piling to build the foundations for the lift shaft and stairs on each side of the rail line.
What we’re doing
In late February and March, we’ll:
- continue removing concrete paving and metal roof sheeting between the bus interchange and the northern station platform, to prepare for building the northern lift and stairs
- continue removing a section of the southern station building, to prepare for building the southern lift and stairs
- in March, we will start piling, to build the foundations for the lift shaft and stairs on each side of the rail line and install concrete columns to support the new structures.
Please follow the directions of traffic management personnel and signage.
When we'll work
- 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.
- 7am to 1pm, Saturdays as required.
What to expect
While we work in Ballarat Station you may experience:
- moderate noise levels
- minimal vibration
- construction vehicles in our project site areas (as shown in map below).
We’ll deliver a piling rig to the northern side of the station from 5am, on Wednesday 12 March.
A piling rig is a machine used in the installation of concrete columns that support new structures.
Changes to the way you travel
We’ll make every effort to complete works on schedule however dates are subject to change.
