3 September 2025
We’re upgrading Ballarat Station to improve accessibility, safety, and connectivity for all public transport users, while considering the heritage of the station.
The project will be completed in 2026 and includes an accessible pedestrian overpass, with a lift and stairs to each platform, and an upgrade to the northern station entrance.
The large steel frames for the lift shafts and pedestrian overpass have recently been delivered to the works area on the northern side of the station. We are working to prepare the lift shafts and overpass before they are craned into place late this year.
Over the coming weeks we will install components of the lifts, stairs and pedestrian overpass.
What we’re doing
In September 2025, we’ll:
- carry out preparation and fit-out works on the large steel frame of on the pedestrian overpass and the lift shafts within the works area on the northern side of the station
- pour the concrete for the entrance to the southern stairs and lift
- install steel supports for the southern stairs
- install roofing and cladding on the canopy structures
- install the northern stairs, including steel, cladding, roofing and bluestone flooring tiles
- install lighting and carry out minor completion works at the upgraded northern station entrance.
What to expect
While we work in Ballarat Station you may experience:
- moderate noise levels
- minimal vibration
- construction vehicles in our project site areas and surrounding roads.
When we’ll work
- From Monday 15 to Friday 19 September, 9.30am and 3.30pm each day, the northern station entrance may be intermittently closed to safely install lighting in the northern waiting room and exterior lighting near the new ramp and steps.
- At other times, we’ll work Monday to Friday 7am to 6pm and Saturdays as required 7am to 1pm.
