The second stage of the Hurstbridge Line Duplication will deliver further improvements, including more train services, less crowding on peak trains and better connections to public transport in Melbourne’s northeast. We’re building a new shared path that will safely connect Greensborough and Montmorency stations.

In early December, construction will take place 24 hours along the rail line in Greensborough and Montmorency and Diamond Creek as we complete works.

Construction will take place as follows:

  • 24/7 works from 7am Saturday 2 December to 3am Tuesday 5 December in Greensborough, Montmorency, Diamond Creek and Wattle Glen.
  • Daytime works only from 7am Wednesday 6 December to 6pm Saturday 9 December in Greensborough, Montmorency, Diamond Creek and Wattle Glen.

What to expect

During these works you may notice:

  • Works within the station precincts at Greensborough, Montmorency and Diamond Creek
  • Noise, dust, or vibrations from heavy machinery working in the rail corridor
  • Heavy vehicles using local roads for haulage and deliveries to site
  • The use of light towers for night works
  • The use of EJ Andrews Reserve as a laydown area for construction materials during the day
  • Single-lane closure along the Sherbourne Road bridge for screen replacement - traffic management will be present to help you move safely through the area
  • Public lighting improvements along Para Road, Greensborough
  • Closure of pedestrian crossing at Poulter Avenue, Greensborough
  • Intermittent speed reduction along Para Road, Greensborough
  • The use of the hi-rail access point at Kalparrin Avenue, Greensborough
  • Construction workers, vehicles and equipment on site undertaking the works
  • Noise and light spill while work takes place. Noise will include road surface works, asphalt paving machinery, support vehicles and crew undertaking works
  • Changes to the way you move around the area
  • Traffic management and detours in place to help you move safely through the area - please check local signage for up-to-date detour information.

Changes to the way you travel

  • Buses will replace trains on the Hurstbridge Line as follows:
    • 8.30pm Friday 1 December to 5.30am Sunday 3 December between Heidelberg and Hurstbridge
    • 5.30am to last service, Sunday 3 December between Clifton Hill and Hurstbridge
    • Monday 4 December to last service Sunday 10 December between Heidelberg and Hurstbridge
    • Monday 11 December to last service Monday 18 December between Heidelberg and Greensborough
  • Greensborough Station will be closed from 5.30am Saturday 2 December to 3am Monday 11 December
  • Access between Poulter Avenue and Para Road will remain open and Myki top-up facilities will be available
  • Montmorency Station be closed from 5.30am Saturday 2 December to 3am Monday 11 December. Myki top up facilities will be available
