16 January 2025

The second stage of the Hurstbridge Line Duplication project delivered further improvements for Melbourne’s northeast, including more train services, less crowding on peak trains and better connections to public transport. We’re now building a new shared path that will safely connect Greensborough and Montmorency stations.

Upcoming works

Works to build the remaining section of the shared walking and cycling path between Greensborough and Montmorency stations are nearing completion.

Railway Road works

To safely finish works to make Railway Road one-way between Para Road and Gladstone Road, Railway Road will continue to be temporarily closed between Para Road and Gladstone Road, Briar Hill until late January. Please see map 1 overleaf.

From February, Railway Road will become permanently one-way south-bound, with drivers unable to turn into Railway Road from Para Road. Drivers will be able to turn both right and left out of Railway Road onto Para Road. Please see map 2 overleaf. We advised residents about this via doorknock and a fact sheet in April 2024. The fact sheet is available by searching for Hurstbridge fact sheets at bigbuild.vic.gov.au.

Para Road works

Works are continuing to install two new pedestrian islands on Para Road near George Court and the Sherbourne Road roundabout for the new walking and cycling path. These works will occur intermittently at night until late January and will involve a lane closure on Para Road at times with traffic management in place.

We will also carry out resurfacing and line-marking works on Para Road between Sherbourne Road and Railway Road in February 2025,after completion of the islands. We will provide more information about these works closer to the time.

Mayona Road works

Resurfacing works will take place along parts of Mayona Road from late January to late February. Traffic management will be in place to help you move safely through the area. Affected residents will be notified directly by the project team.

What to expect

As works continue, you will notice:

  • no entry into Railway Road from Para Road - Railway Road becomes a south-bound one-way street
  • continuing presence of vehicles, plant and materials along Para Road and Railway Road
  • overnight noise from asphalt resurfacing works
  • noise, dust, or vibrations from heavy machinery and noise and light spill while work takes place
  • reinstatement of impacted areas.

Travel impacts

  • Railway Road between Para Road and Gladstone Road will be closed until late January.
  • Traffic management will be in place to help you move safely through the area.
