We're upgrading the Kananook Stabling Yard to allow for more trains, more often on the Frankston Line.
The Frankston Line is one of Melbourne’s busiest train lines and the Kananook Stabling Yard will provides the essential daily services to keep the Frankston Line running efficiently.
The project will increase the capacity of the yard from 8 to 21 trains, to allow more trains to run on the Frankston Line, as well as building train maintenance and wash facilities.
What we’re doing in March
During March we will be completing works within the Stabling Yard and on Klauer Street.
Within the Kananook Stabling Yard from 9pm Friday 21 March to 3am Monday 24 March 2025, we will work on the following activities:
- clearing ballast
- installing bollards
- performing defect rectification
- asphalting roads and walkways
- landscaping
- installing lighting
From 7am to 7pm on Sunday 23 March 2025, Klauer Street will be closed to southbound traffic at the rail overpass while crews complete concrete scanning inspections.
Traffic management will be in place to help you move safely through the area. Drivers should detour via Wells Road, Seaford Road, Nepean Highway and Fletcher Road.
What to expect
- Moderate noise and vibration from machinery and trucks between 7am and 7pm
- Minimal overnight noise
- Safety lighting on-site during operating hours
- Additional truck movements and vehicles in the area
- Increased vehicle movement on Bardia Avenue
- Detour for Klauer Street southbound lane
Changes to the way you travel
- Klauer Street southbound lane will be closed Sunday 23 March between 7am and 7pm – detour via Wells Road, Seaford Road, Nepean Highway and Fletcher Road.
- Pedestrian access will be maintained
Wells Road
- Parking: 7 spaces are closed between Raymond Road and Martha Street until mid 2025
Miles Grove
- Parking: 14 spaces are closed between Wise Avenue and Wells Road until mid 2025
Martha Street
- Parking: 6 spaces are closed towards Wells Road until mid 2025
Bardia Avenue
- Traffic: Temporary changes in traffic flow as required until mid 2025
- Parking: 22 spaces are closed between Moresby Avenue and Patrick Court until mid 2025
- Cyclist and pedestrian access: Detour in place for the shared use path between Moresby Avenue and Patrick Court until mid 2025
