We're upgrading the Kananook Stabling Yard to allow for more trains, more often on the Frankston Line.

The Victorian Government is removing 27 dangerous level crossings and building 17 new stations, making the Frankston Line level crossing free, and providing more frequent services, improving safety and easing congestion.

The Frankston Line is one of Melbourne’s busiest train lines and the Kananook Stabling Yard provides the essential daily services to keep the Frankston Line running efficiently.

The project will increase the capacity of the yard from eight to 21 trains, to allow more trains to run on the Frankston Line, as well as new train maintenance and wash facilities to provide the essential daily services to keep the Frankston Line running efficiently.

What we’re doing

  • install driveways and gates to the stabling yard
  • install guard rails and concrete maintenance strips
  • repair kerbs
  • install garden beds
  • complete asphalting

What to expect

Full road closure with no access for vehicles between Miles Grove and Klauer Street (pedestrian access maintained). Access to homes and businesses maintained.

  • Detours in place with signage to direct traffic
  • Moderate noise and vibration from machinery and trucks
  • Additional truck movements and vehicles in the area

Works will take place during the following times:

  • 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday
  • 7am to 3pm Saturdays.
