8 August 2026
Longer 9-car VLocity trains will be able to run on the Melton Line next year, one year ahead of schedule. Running longer trains will boost passenger capacity by 50% during peak services.
To house the new trains we’re building a new train stabling yard in Cobblebank, 700m east of the new Melton Station.
We’re working 24/7 at the stabling yard and in the rail corridor from 12.01am, Wednesday 12 August to 4am, Tuesday 1 September.
While we work, buses and coaches will replace trains on sections of the Ararat, Ballarat and Maryborough lines from first service, Wednesday 12 August to last service, Monday 31 August.
What we’re doing
- Building new rail tracks and connecting them into the existing Melton line
- Excavation and underground service works
- Rail signalling and track works in the rail corridor
What to expect
- Works taking place 24/7, with increased lighting, noise, vibration and traffic in the area
- Dust minimised with watercarts
- Additional construction vehicles and workers in the area.
We’ll make every effort to complete works on schedule; however, dates and times are subject to change.
