We’re getting ready to run longer 9-car VLocity trains on the Melton Line from next year, one year ahead of schedule. Running longer trains will boost passenger capacity by 50% during peak services.
As part of the $650 million Melton Line Upgrade, we're building a new train stabling yard in Cobblebank, 700m east of the new Melton Station, to house the new trains.
From Wednesday 1 April to June, we’re undertaking site establishment works between Abey Road and the rail corridor. See map below.
Works will be during regular construction hours of 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and 7am to 1pm on Saturdays.
What we’re doing
- Setting up a temporary site office and utilities.
- Investigating underground services and ground conditions.
- Excavation, rock breaking when required, trenching and soil remediation works.
- Vegetation removal.
- Hardstand construction.
- Installation of temporary fencing and vehicle access tracks.
- Installation of crushed rock for construction foundations.
What to expect
- An increase in construction vehicles on Abey Road.
- An increase in noise, dust and vibration.
- Dust to be minimised with watercarts.
Access to residential properties on Jester Drive and businesses on Abey Road will be maintained at all times.
We’ll make every effort to complete works on schedule; however, dates and times are subject to change.
