The Victorian Government is building the brand-new West Tarneit Station to better connect the growing suburbs of the west to Melbourne’s CBD. Delivered by the Level Crossing Removal Project, it will provide a much-needed public transport link on the Geelong Line as part of the V/Line network.

To be located near the corner of Leakes and Davis roads, the new station will include a 4-bay bus interchange, parking for up to 400 commuters, and an accessible pedestrian underpass. When it opens in 2026, the station will also feature a welcoming and landscaped precinct, equipped with seating, separated walking and cycling pathways, bike hoops and secure bike storage.

We will soon start setting up our project site area on both the northern and southern sides of the rail line. This will include building a temporary construction road from Leakes Road into the construction site.

What we’re doing

As part of these construction site establishment works, we’ll:

  • establish two site compounds (one on each side of the rail line where the new station will be built), including site offices, workforce car parks, construction materials storage areas and crane pads
  • construct a temporary access road from Leakes Road into the southern side of the project site, including a construction vehicle entry/exit point on Leakes Road near Cottesloe Boulevard
  • set up traffic management on Leakes Road from Heartlands Boulevard to Embleton Avenue, to safety manage construction vehicles entering the project site
  • construct a temporary access road from Modesto Drive into the northern side of the project site

What to expect

While we work, you may notice:

  • low to moderate levels of noise, dust and vibration.
  • increased construction vehicles and trucks on local roads, including Leakes Road, Tarneit Road, Odessey Boulevard, Modesto Drive, Dohertys Road, and Davis Road. These vehicles may include work crew vehicles, trucks, excavators and road rollers.

Where we’ll work

Works will occur in the project area, near the corner of Leakes and Davis roads, on the north and south sides of the rail line.

Changes to the way you travel

From Monday 7 July 2025 through to the end of construction in 2026:

  • There will be no right turn into/out of Cottesloe Boulevard from/to Leakes Road.
    • Please use an alternative route via Heartlands Boulevard and Eagleridge Promenade (left and right turn access to/from Leakes Road). See map for alternative route.
    • The left turn into/out of Cottesloe Boulevard from/to Leakes Road will remain in place
  • Speed reductions from 60 kms/hr to 40kms/hour will be in place on Leakes Road between Heartlands Boulevard and Embleton Avenue.
  • Intermittent, off-peak lane closures will be in place on Leakes Road between Heartlands Boulevard and Embleton Avenue throughout construction. Contraflow movements will be in place at these times.
  • There also may be temporary stop/go along Leakes Road to safety allow construction vehicles to enter the project construction site. The eastbound bike lane may also be closed for short periods of time. Please follow the direction of traffic controllers.

When we’ll work

From Monday 7 July 2025 through to the end of construction in 2026, we’ll be working:

  • Monday to Friday 7am to 5pm
  • Saturdays 7am –1pm

In mid to late July 2025, for two nights only, we’ll be working:

  • From 9pm to 4am to safely undertake line-marking and install signage along Leakes Road, near the entrance to the temporary access road.
  • There will be a temporary lane closure in place, with construction vehicles, work crews and lighting towers present. Contraflow traffic will be in place at this time. Please follow the direction of traffic controllers.

We’ll make every effort to complete works on schedule however dates are subject to change.
