20 August 2025
The Victorian Government is building the brand-new West Tarneit Station to better connect the growing suburbs of the west to Melbourne’s CBD. Delivered by the Level Crossing Removal Project, it will provide a much-needed public transport link on the Geelong Line as part of the V/Line network.
To be located near the corner of Leakes and Davis roads, the new station will include a 4-bay bus interchange, parking for up to 400 commuters, and an accessible pedestrian underpass. When it opens in 2026, the station will also feature a welcoming and landscaped precinct, equipped with seating, separated walking and cycling pathways, bike hoops and secure bike storage.
We will undertake night works in late August/early September to finish setting up our project site areas on the northern and southern sides of the rail line.
What we’re doing
As part of upcoming works, we’ll:
- complete line-marking along Leakes Road overnight on 20 and 21 August
- install safety fencing near the rail corridor at night while trains aren’t running
- finalise the establishment of the project’s temporary two access roads and the 2 site compounds, inclusive of site offices, workforce car parks, construction materials storage areas and crane pads.
What to expect
While we work through the night, you may notice:
- lighting towers, work crews, worker vehicles, cranes and specialised rail equipment on the rail tracks and on the project site
- low to moderate levels of noise, dust and vibration
- the continuation of increased construction vehicles and trucks on local roads, including Leakes Road, Tarneit Road, Odessey Boulevard, Modesto Drive, Dohertys Road, and Davis Road.
When we’ll work
From 9pm, Wednesday 20 August to 4am, Friday 22 August, we’ll undertake line-marking along Leakes Road near the entrance to the project’s temporary access road. A temporary lane closure will be in place with two-way stop/go traffic movements.
From 8pm, Sunday 31 August to 4am, Tuesday 2 September, we’ll be working when trains aren’t running to safely install safety fencing. Vehicles and equipment will enter the rail corridor between Tarneit and Derrimut Roads, as well as via the access road off Leakes Road.
Through to the end of construction in 2026, we’ll be working:
- Monday to Friday 7am to 6pm
- Saturdays 7am to 1pm
We’ll make every effort to complete works on schedule however dates are subject to change.
Changes to the way you travel
Until the end of construction in 2026:
- There will be no right turn into/out of Cottesloe Boulevard from/to Leakes Road.
- Please use an alternative route via Heartlands Boulevard and Eagleridge Promenade (left and right turn access to/from Leakes Road). See map for alternative route.
- The left turn into/out of Cottesloe Boulevard from/to Leakes Road will remain in place
- Speed reductions from 60 km/h to 40km/h will be in place on Leakes Road between Heartlands Boulevard and Embleton Avenue.
- Intermittent, off-peak lane closures will be in place on Leakes Road between Heartlands Boulevard and Embleton Avenue throughout construction. Two-way stop/go traffic movements will be in place at these times.
- There also may be temporary stop/go along Leakes Road to safely allow construction vehicles to enter the project construction site. The eastbound bike lane may also be closed for short periods of time. Please follow the direction of traffic controllers.
