2 October 2025

The Victorian Government is building the brand-new West Tarneit Station to better connect the growing suburbs of the west to Melbourne’s CBD. Delivered by Big Build Rail, it will provide a much-needed public transport link on the Geelong Line as part of the V/Line network.

To be located near the corner of Leakes and Davis roads, the new station will include a 4-bay bus interchange, parking for up to 400 commuters, and an accessible pedestrian underpass. When it opens in 2026, the station will also feature a welcoming and landscaped precinct, equipped with seating, separated walking and cycling pathways, bike hoops and secure bike storage.

The West Tarneit Station project site area is fully established, and we have started major construction.

What we’re doing

As part of major construction works, we’ll:

  • undertake signalling works in the rail corridor
  • undertake boring, also called drilling, works under the rail line, relocate underground services, and commence electrical pipe works and pit installation
  • install stormwater drainage infrastructure and commence plumbing works to connect water and fire hydrant services to the new station
  • construct crane pads on the north and south sides of the project area
  • construct the southern and northern embankments for the new station
  • construct the southern car park and bus loop.

What to expect

While we work, you may notice:

  • low to moderate levels of noise, dust and vibration
  • lighting towers, work crews, worker vehicles, and specialised rail equipment on the rail tracks during night works
  • construction plant and equipment entering into the project site via Leakes Road on the south and Modesto Drive on the north, including excavators, rollers, trucks, cranes, drilling rigs, and graders
  • increased construction vehicles and trucks on local roads, including Leakes Road, Tarneit Road, Odessey Boulevard, Modesto Drive, Dohertys Road, and Davis Road.

Where we’ll work

Works will occur in the project area, near the corner of Leakes and Davis roads, on the north and south sides of the rail line. Please see map showing our project site area (section in red) and other projects that are also being delivered locally.

When we’ll work

From Sunday 26 October to Wednesday 29 October, 8pm to 5am each night, we’ll be working at night when trains aren’t running to undertake signalling works in the rail corridor. The rail equipment will enter the rail corridor between Tarneit and Derrimut Roads.

From mid October to late October, 8pm to 5am each night for a 2 week period, we’ll be working at night when there is a reduced frequency of trains to undertake boring works under the rail line. We’ll notify nearby residents prior to the works commencing.

Through to the end of construction in 2026, we’ll be working:

  • Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm
  • Saturdays, 7am to 1pm

We’ll make every effort to complete works on schedule however dates are subject to change.

Projects in Tarneit delivered by other authorities

A number of other projects, being delivered by other agencies or authorities, are currently in construction within close proximity to the West Tarneit Station site, as shown in the map below. The Big Build Rail West Tarneit Station team continues to coordinate with relevant parties through construction.
