Working with local organisations

We're removing 110 dangerous and congested level crossings across Melbourne by 2030, the largest project of its kind in Victoria's history.

Highway and Watsons Road, Diggers Rest are being fast-tracked for removal in 2025 - one year earlier than planned. Removing these level crossings will improve safety, allow more trains more often and will prepare the area for future development.

The removal of these level crossings will also make the Sunbury Line level crossing-free by 2026. This means more benefits for local communities and a better transport network for all Victorians.

Communities will hear more from our team this year about the removal of these level crossings. This will include information about community consultation, project timelines and what construction activities will be happening.

Our team is here to support you

The Level Crossing Removal Project has a team dedicated to working with and supporting local businesses, groups and the Diggers Rest community.

If you have a question or concern about the project, do not hesitate to get int ouch with the team by calling 1800 105 105 or emailing contact@levelcrossings.vic.gov.au.

Working with your organisation during construction

Understanding and collaborating with your business or community group is important to us.

During construction, our commitment to you is to:

  • have dedicated staff keep you up to date about the project and timing of upcoming works and disruptions
  • ensure you have information about travel disruptions to help your staff, volunteers, customers and members get around
  • conduct marketing campaigns to encourage the community to continue shopping locally during the works
  • encourage our workforce to shop, dine and use services locally
  • procure goods and services locally, where we can.
  • manage traffic and workforce parking to keep it off local roads.

What to expect

Large construction projects like these level crossing removals can present both challenges and opportunities to businesses and community groups nearby.

Changes to travel and parking

Our works will take place on and next to key local and arterial roads. This may lead to occasional changes to how you drive, use public transport, park, cycle and walk through the area.

We will let local businesses know in advance of disruptions to ensure you have information about detours or access changes, so you can help your staff and customers get around.

We’ll make sure the community is well-informed about any changes in the area so they know how to reach you.

Keeping you up to date

During our works, we'll keep you up to date in the following ways:

  • Dropping in to your business or venue to provide project updates and information about disruptions and answer any concerns you may have.
  • Delivering letters to local business about upcoming works and disruptions.
  • Providing regular email updates if you sign up to the Diggers Rest project.
  • Sending important information to your mobile phone. Simply SMS DIGGERS to 0427 840 967 to make sure you receive these updates.
