We’ve removed the level crossings at Old Calder Highway and Watsons Road, Diggers Rest, improving local safety, and making the Sunbury Line level crossing-free in 2025.

In January and February 2026, the team will continue completion works at Watsons Road and Old Calder Highway.

What we’re doing

Old Calder Highway

• Rectification works as required.

Watsons Road

• Removing the site compound and reinstating areas that have been temporarily used by the project.
• Rectification works as required.

When we’ll work

Our crews will take a break over the holiday period and there will be no planned project works from the afternoon of Friday 19 December 2025 until Tuesday 13 January 2026. Our team will be on-call during this time to undertake emergency project works if required.

When we return, our work hours will be as follows:

• 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday
• 7am to 3pm, Saturday (as required)

What to expect

At times, you may notice varying levels of noise, dust and vibration, plus construction vehicles and trucks on local roads, including Watsons Rd, Buckley Rd, Crinnion Rd, Diggers Rest-Bulla Rd, Old Calder Highway, Golden Way, Diggers Rest-Coimadai Rd, Tame St, Welcome Rd, School Lane and in the Diggers Rest Station car parks.

Changes to the way you travel

For your safety, please follow signage and traffic management in place.

Old Calder Highway

Between Punjel Drive and Odyssey Drive and between Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road and Universal Court from 7am to 6pm, Tuesday 13 January until Friday 27 February on weekdays:

• Intermittent and temporary lane closures.
• Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.

Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road

Between Tame Street and Old Calder Highway from 9.30am to 3.30pm, Tuesday 13 January until Friday 27 February on weekdays:

• Off-peak, intermittent and temporary lane closures.
• Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times

Golden Way

• Off-peak, intermittent and temporary lane closures.
• Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.

Watons Road

Between Old Vineyard Road and Buckland Way from 7am to 6pm, Tuesday 13 January until Friday 27 February on weekdays:

• Intermittent and temporary lane closures.
• Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.

Buckley Road

Near the corner of Watsons Road from 7am to 6pm, Tuesday 13 January until Friday 27 February on weekdays :

• Intermittent and temporary lane closures.
• Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.
