We’re removing the level crossings at Old Calder Highway and Watsons Road, Diggers Rest, improving local safety, and making the Sunbury Line level crossing-free in 2025.

In November and December, the team will be putting the finishing touches on the new Watsons Road bridge and continuing completion works at Old Calder Highway.

What we’re doing

Old Calder Highway

• Installing a new pedestrian path beside Old Calder Highway, between Golden Way and the Diggers Rest Lawn Bowls Club car park entrance.
• Continuing landscaping across the site and rectification works as required.

Watsons Road

• Continuing asphalting, line marking and installing road signs.
• Finishing permanent maintenance and resident access tracks on both sides of the bridge.
• Landscaping and installing fencing on both sides of the bridge.
• Continuing painting the bridge.

When we’ll work

• 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.
• 7am to 3pm, Saturday (as required).

What to expect

You may notice varying levels of noise, as well as dust and vibration. You may also notice construction vehicles and trucks on local roads, including Watsons Road, Buckley Road, Crinnion Road, Diggers Rest-Bulla Road, Old Calder Highway, Golden Way, Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road, Tame Street, Welcome Road, School Lane and in the Diggers Rest Station car parks.

Changes to the way you travel

For your safety, please follow signage and traffic management in place.

Road

Old Calder Highway

Intermittent and temporary lane closures:

• between Punjel Drive and Odyssey Drive from 7am to 6pm, Monday 10 November until Friday 19 December on weekdays
  • Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.
• between Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road and Universal Court from 7am to 6pm, Monday 10 November until Friday 19 December on weekdays
  • Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.

Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road

Off-peak, intermittent and temporary lane closures:

• between Tame Street and Old Calder Highway from 9.30am to 3.30pm, Monday 10 November until Friday 19 December on weekdays.
  • Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.

Golden Way

Off-peak, intermittent and temporary lane closures:

• from 9.30am to 3.30pm, Monday 10 November until Friday 19 December on weekdays.
  • Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.

Parking

Diggers Rest Station, eastern car park

Around 50 spaces in the eastern station car park, including seven accessible spaces, will close to facilitate project works:

• from 5pm Thursday 20 November until 3pm Saturday 22 November.
  • Alternative accessible spaces will be located nearby – please see signage closer to the closure date.
  • The Platform 1 drop-off bay will remain open during this time, except between 8am and 3pm on Saturday 22 November.
