We’re removing the level crossings at Old Calder Highway and Watsons Road, Diggers Rest, improving local safety, and making the Sunbury Line level crossing-free in 2025.

We’ve started preparing the Old Calder Highway site for major construction later this year, with upcoming works scheduled to relocate utility services, establish work zones, remove vegetation and set up site offices.

What we’re doing

In June and July, we’ll work during regular construction hours from Monday to Friday, between 7am and 6pm and on Saturdays, between 7am and 1pm to:

• Remove some trees and vegetation beside Old Calder Highway, Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road, in the western car park at Diggers Rest Station, and at 1 Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road
• Demolish the building at 1 Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road, the sheds beside the western car park at Diggers Rest Station, and establish work areas in both locations as well as on the eastern side of Old Calder Highway
• Install “No Standing” signage on the western side of Tame Street
• Establish a work area within 23 Tame Street and 13-15 Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road.

What to expect

Throughout this time, you may notice low to moderate levels of noise, dust and vibration. You may also notice construction vehicles and trucks on local roads including Old Calder Highway, Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road, Tame Street, School Lane, and in the Diggers Rest Station car park.

If we need to work at night, additional lighting will be in place and will be directed away from residential properties where possible. Low levels of noise are expected during this time.

Utility providers will communicate service impacts associated with utility relocation works in the coming weeks.

Changes to the way you travel

For your safety, please follow signage and traffic management in place. Please see the works map on the next page for more information about the following travel changes.

Old Calder Highway and Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road

• Day works until Wednesday 31 July during off-peak hours (9.30am – 3.30pm)
• Intermittent and temporary lane closures.
• Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.
