19 September 2025
We’re removing the level crossings at Old Calder Highway and Watsons Road, Diggers Rest, improving local safety, and making the Sunbury Line level crossing-free in 2025.
Now that major works are complete at Old Calder Highway, our work site at 23 Tame Street will close soon, after which the project will resurface Tame Street.
What we’re doing
- Removing the steel plates on the road
- Removing the existing road surface
- Installing new asphalt on the road
When we’ll work
We’ll undertake these road works from 7am to 5pm, Monday 20 October until Friday 24 October 2025, and 7am to 3pm on Saturday 25 October.
We’ll make every effort to complete the works on schedule, however they are weather-dependent, and dates are therefore subject to change.
What to expect
To enable the project to excavate the old road surface and lay new asphalt, Tame Street will be closed throughout these works. While the project may be able to allow limited vehicle access during initial works, the road will be fully closed with no vehicle access once asphalting is underway.
There will also be no on-street parking possible on both sides of Tame Street from 7am, Monday 20 October until 3pm, Saturday 25 October. Pedestrian access to properties will be maintained at all times.
The project will brief emergency services, who will have access in case of an emergency, and liaise with Melton City Council to ensure the weekly waste collection service is not affected.
If you need to use your car during the day while these works are underway, please park in the Diggers Rest Station western car park before 7am. While residents can return cars to their properties at the end of each day, there will be a gap between the driveway level and road surface which may be unsuitable for some vehicles.
As works progress, the project will keep Tame Street residents up to date via letter drop and text message.
You may notice moderate to high levels of noise, as well as dust and vibration as we remove the existing road surface and install the new asphalt. Trucks, excavators, road resurfacing equipment and project vehicles will work on Tame Street to complete the road resurfacing.
Changes to the way you travel
