The transformation of St Albans and Ginifer stations is almost complete.

At Ginifer, we've opened 350 new car parking spaces, planted native trees, shrubs and grasses around the station, and improved safety withnew lighting and seating for passengers.

We've also reconstructed the car park for traders on Willaton Street and installed traffic lights at the corner of Willaton Street and Furlong Road.

We've connected St Albans and Ginifer Station with 2km of walking and cycling paths, making cycling a safe and efficient transport option for the St Albans community.

Secure storage cages for bikes are ready for use at Ginifer Station. The cages, called Parkiteers, can be used by anyone with an access card. If you're interested in getting a card and using the Parkiteer, contact Bicycle Network on 1300 546 526.

What's happening around Main Road?

St Albans Station is being completely rebuilt into a modern and functional transport hub.

The station will be finished in the middle of the year, complete with several new shops, a new bus interchange and over 500 car parking spaces. Better lighting, seating and colourful garden beds all contribute to making the new St Albans Station a great addition to the area.

St Albans Station carpark to open late May

Works continue on the St Albans Road and East Esplanade car parks, delayed by bad ground conditions and recent wet weather. The car parks are scheduled to open in late May with over 500 spaces.

Pedestrian access around St Albans Station

While crews complete the landscaping and paving around the new St Albans Station there will be some pedestrian access changes. See map above.

Access to the station will only be available through the entrance on the corner of St Albans Road and Main Road East. The southern footpath on Main Road and the eastern footpath of McKechnie Street will also remain closed. The changes will be in place until 19 May.

McKechnie Street roadworks

Thanks for your patience during the recent disruptions along McKechnie Street. We've completed the road and kerb works needed to upgrade the zebra crossing. Once lights are installed in May the crossing upgrade will be complete.

Some landscaping works on the eastern side of McKechnie Street are still required and will also be completed in May.

St Albans Road surface work

Road works and asphalting are planned for 9 to 11 May between 9pm and 5am. This will be the final surface work for St Albans Road. Crews will asphalt and line mark the road, then remove concrete barriers from the roadside and prepare the roads for a return to normal use. There will be lane closures on St Albans Road and Main Road during the works.

St Albans Station and bus interchange – after hours works

To assist with the completion of the new shops, bus interchange and car parks at St Albans Station, crews will sometimes be working at night from end of April to Thursday 25 May, Monday to Friday, 6pm to 5am.

Night works will happen only at the bus and retail construction area and in the station. Noisy works will be scheduled during the day.

Crews will be working weekend construction hours to assist with project completion.

A west-bound partial lane closure on Main Road (next to the new station) will be in place outside of peak times to enable the crews to work safely.

Pedestrian crossing works

Inner Circus Pedestrian Bridge closed

Inner circus pedestrian bridge (on both West Esplanade and East Esplanade sides) will be closed for 5 days from 7am Monday 8 May to complete installation works for safety bollards.

Mulhall Pedestrian Bridge closed

Access from Willaton Street onto Mulhall Pedestrian Bridge will not be available between 9.30am and 3.30pm on Tuesday 9 May and Wednesday 10 May to complete the installation of safety bollards on the footpath. Pedestrians will need to continue south along Willaton Street to access Ginifer Station.
