Ramping up works on Camp Road

The Victorian Government is removing 50 of the most dangerous and congested level crossings across Melbourne, which will include the level crossing at Camp Road in Campbellfield.

To remove the dangerous crossing, the railway line will be lowered under the road, creating better traffic flow and a safer community. From 26 to 31 October, major works will occur near the level crossing to underground services such as water, power and gas as well as the installation of new railway signalling infrastructure.

What does this mean for you?

To deliver the works safely, Camp Road will be closed at the crossing from:

  • 9pm Thursday 26 October to 6am Monday 30 October
  • 10pm Monday 30 October to 6am Tuesday 31 October

During this time buses will replace trains on the Upfield Line between Coburg and Upfield stations.

We understand that this will be a disruption and are working to make this process as easy as possible by having traffic management and signage in place. Every effort will be made to minimise disruptions to local traffic and we will keep you informed as works progress.

Planned disruptions to train services

To get you where you need to go, buses will replace trains on the Upfield line between Coburg and Upfield stations from 8.30pm Thursday 26 October to the last service on Monday 30 October. Normal train services will resume on Tuesday 31 October.

Customers are advised to allow for extra travel time.

For more information on train replacement bus services, visit ptv.vic.gov.au or call 1800 800 007.

The Information Hub

You can visit the Hub to learn more about the project along with some interesting historical background on the local area and the old Campbellfield Station.

The Information Hub will connect the project team and local job network providers. We are working with Hume City Council’s job service provider JobLink to provide pathways to potential employment for local job seekers by:

  • assessing job history and skills
  • assistance with resume and cover letter writing
  • support in identifying training opportunities.

If you’d like to know more about the project and how works may affect you, or discuss potential job opportunities, please drop in to talk to one of our project team members.

The Information Hub is open from 6 October, between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday, at 20 Thompsons Road, Campbellfield.

Detours during construction

While works are underway to remove the level crossing, detours will be in place.

Please note that this may increase your journey by up to 25 minutes. To help you get around the area, traffic management and signage will be in place.

For your safety, please observe any signage and instructions during these works.

Community news

The Camp Road Level Crossing Removal Project has provided the Kangan Institute and Moomba Park Primary School with mulch for use by their horticultural students and in playgrounds.

The mulch came from a small number of trees that were removed along the railway line to make room for construction. The mulch will be used by about 200 students in the Kangan Institute’s horticultural and landscape construction courses, including Kangan Institute’s pilot program for culturally and linguistically diverse students.

Babis Lagos, Senior Educator at the Institute said: 'We’d like to thank the LXRP and we truly appreciate the opportunity to provide our Certificate 2 students with the opportunity to learn how to properly mulch garden beds and pathways around our centre as part of our practical and innovative program'.

Opportunity knocks for local businesses

While temporary disruptions can be expected as works take place from October to December, our 150 team members will be shopping locally during construction. We encourage business owners to start thinking about how you might take advantage of this. To make an appointment to speak with the team, or learn more about other successful trader initiatives, you can call 1800 105 105.
