Early site investigations

The Victorian Government is closing the level crossing at Anderson Street, Yarraville and building 2 new pedestrian and cycling underpasses to keep the community connected.

What we’re doing

As part of planning for the Anderson Street, Yarraville Level Crossing Removal Project, we are undertaking routine early-stage site investigations and assessing rail track layout to better understand ground conditions and inform project design.

These investigations will take place at multiple locations within the rail corridor, south and north of the Yarraville Station precinct and in and around the Woods Street Reserve.

Works will take place from 7am to 7pm, Saturday 29 August and 7am to 6pm, Monday 31 August.

Activities include non-destructive digging using high pressure water to safely expose and verify the location of underground services and investigating track layout. We will also be using CCTV to investigate pipes and doing ground water sampling. All areas will be reinstated upon completion.

What to expect

  • Crews will work at each location for a short time and then move to the next location.
  • Some noise and minor disruption are expected, including temporary footpath and parking bay closures as required.
  • Local access to businesses maintained.
  • Temporary access impacts to two driveways on Simpson Street. We will be in touch with affected residents directly.

Changes to the way you travel

To safely carry out these works:

  • Traffic management will be in place to help guide motorists, pedestrians and cyclists safely across the rail line when machinery passes through.
  • Traffic management will also be in place around temporary worksites on footpaths and car parking bays in local streets.
  • These works are taking place while trains are not running on the Werribee Line. Buses will replace trains on sections of the line from 11.30pm, Friday 28 August to last service Monday 31 August.
