7 April 2026
The Victorian Government is getting on with making the Werribee Line boom gate-free by 2030, paving the way for more trains, more often.
We’re removing the Hudsons Road level crossing with a rail bridge and building a new Spotswood Station with better facilities for passengers. Elevating the rail line provides better walking and cycling connections to the local neighbourhood and unlocks opportunities to rejuvenate the station precinct, including planting more trees and greenery.
What we're doing
As part of early project planning, we are carrying out geotechnical investigation works to support design development and better understand local ground conditions.
Works will take place on Hall Street near the rail corridor between 9 April and mid May, progressing along the street as site investigations are completed. These works include collecting soil samples using a drilling rig and undertaking non-destructive digging to assess soil conditions.
A temporary site compound (portable caravan) will also be established near Simcock Avenue to support these works.
What to expect
- Regular works will occur between 7am and 6pm on weekdays, and between 7am and 3.30pm on Saturdays.
- Extended working hours between 7am and 7pm will take place from Friday 10 to Tuesday 14 April.
- Crews will take one week to complete site investigations at each location and move progressively along Hall Street using a drilling rig and other small machinery.
- Crews in the area undertaking utility, ecological, traffic and visual site investigations.
- Some moderate noise at times.
- Temporary safety fencing installed at each investigation site while works are underway.
- Traffic management in place to help guide motorists and pedestrians safely through the area, where required.
- Every effort will be made to complete these works on schedule. However, these dates and locations are subject to change.
Changes to the way you travel
- To safely carry out these works, there will be temporary changes to traffic conditions in Spotswood, including rolling shuttle flow setups and reduced speed limits along Hall Street as works progress.
- There will be no disruption to train services.
Changes to street parking
- Street parking along Hall Street will be affected throughout the works period between April and mid May.
- Work will be carried out in 200m sections along Hall Street, with each section taking approximately one week to complete.
- During this time, all rail-side parking within the active section will be unavailable. Closures will move progressively along Hall Street as site investigations are completed.
- A temporary site compound (portable caravan) will be established between Simcock Avenue and the West Gate Freeway, resulting in the closure of approximately 20 spaces. This compound is expected to remain in place until mid-2026.
- Please note that exact locations may change as works progress, and additional minor parking impacts may occur in the area.
