The Victorian Government is removing the dangerous and congested level crossing at Hudsons Road, Spotswood, helping to make the Werribee Line boom gate-free.

What we're doing

As part of early project planning, we are carrying out service proving works to confirm the location of underground utilities and inform project design.

Works will take place on Hall Street, Craig Street, Simcock Avenue and Hudsons Road, on Hope Street at McLister Street, and within the rail corridor while trains aren’t running from Friday 28 August to Monday 31 August. Works include non-destructive digging using high-pressure water to safely expose and verify the location of underground services.

What to expect

  • Works will occur between 7am and 6pm on weekdays, and between 7am and 7pm on Saturday and Sunday while trains are not running.
  • Crews will use an excavator and non-destructive digging methods to locate and verify underground services, use CCTV to investigate pipes and do ground water sampling.
  • There may be some moderate noise at times while excavation equipment is operating.
  • Temporary safety barriers and work zones will be in place while works are underway.
  • Traffic management, including lane closures and shuttle flow, will be in place to help guide motorists and pedestrians safely through the area.

Road

Hope Street

  • Road closed on Hope Street at McLister Street from 7am to 6pm, Friday 28 August and Monday 31 August.
  • Traffic management in place with alternating one-way traffic from Hudsons Road to McLister Street from 7am to 7pm, Saturday 29 August.

Hudsons Road

  • Traffic management in place with alternating one-way traffic at the level crossing from 7am to 7pm, Saturday 29 August.

Hall Street

  • Traffic management in place with alternating one-way traffic at Simcock Avenue from 7am to 6pm, Friday 28 August and Monday 31 August.
  • Northbound lane closure from Hudsons Road to Craig Street from 7am to 7pm, Saturday 29 August and 7am to 6pm, Monday 31 August.

Parking

Hall Street

  • Street car parking closure at Simcock Avenue from 7am to 6pm, Friday 28 August and Monday 31 August.
  • Street car parking closure at Craig Street from 7am to 7pm, Saturday 29 August.

Pedestrian

  • Pedestrian level crossing closure at Hudsons Road from 7am to 7pm, Saturday 29 August. Use pedestrian underpass instead.

Rail

  • Buses will replace train on section of the Werribee Line from 11.30pm, Friday 28 August to last service Monday 31 August. Visit transport.vic.gov.au for more information and to plan your journey.
