The Victorian Government is removing the dangerous and congested level crossing at Hudsons Road, Spotswood, helping to make the Werribee Line boom gate-free.

What we're doing

As part of early project planning, we are carrying out geotechnical investigation works to support design development and better understand local ground conditions.

Works will take place on Hall Street and Hope Street near the rail corridor between mid-May and early July, progressing in stages along the streets. These works include collecting soil samples using a drilling rig and undertaking non-destructive digging via high-pressure water to assess soil conditions.

What to expect

  • Regular works will occur between 7am and 6pm on weekdays, and between 7am and 3.30pm on Saturdays.
  • Crews will spend approximately one week at each site, progressing along Hall Street and Hope Street using a drilling rig, non-destructive digging equipment, and other small machinery.
  • Crews in the area undertaking utility, ecological, traffic and visual site investigations.
  • Some moderate noise at times.
  • Temporary safety fencing installed at each investigation site while works are underway.
  • Traffic management in place to help guide motorists and pedestrians safely through the area, where required.
  • Every effort will be made to complete these works on schedule. However, these dates and locations are subject to change.

Changes to the way you travel

  • To safely carry out these works, there will be temporary changes to traffic conditions in Spotswood, including rolling shuttle flow and lane closures with detours in place as works progress.
  • Minor pedestrian detours may be required at times to safely guide foot traffic around active work areas.
  • There will be no planned disruption to train services.

Changes to street parking

  • Parking along Hall Street and Hope Street will be affected throughout the works period between mid-May and early July.
  • There will be rolling car park closures as works move progressively along both streets.
  • Please note that exact locations may change as works progress, and additional minor parking impacts may be required.
