3 July 2024
We’re making the Werribee line level crossing free by 2030. We’ve already removed 4, and now we're getting rid of the final 5 to improve safety, reduce congestion and run more trains more often.
What we're doing
We’re in the planning stage to remove the level crossing at Maidstone Street, Altona by 2027.
The level crossing will be removed by building a road bridge over the rail line, avoiding impacts to important utilities, protected grasslands, and creating better connections for this busy industrial area.
To help inform early planning, site investigations will continue in the area throughout July to September 2024.
During this time, we’ll:
- carry out land and utility surveying across the site and rail corridor,
- conduct environmental assessments.
What to expect
While we work, you may notice:
- construction crews, vehicles, and equipment in the area
- non-destructive digging trucks will be working in the area
- low to moderate noise levels
- some non-disruptive night works may be required to minimise impacts to local traffic.
Working hours
- Monday to Friday 7am to 6pm
- Saturdays 7am to 5pm
Some out of hours may be required at times
Changes to the way you travel
At times, traffic management may be in place times to help you move safety through the area.
