We are delivering stage one of Melbourne Airport Rail, with the Australian and Victorian governments investing more than $4 billion to deliver 6km of major rail upgrades from West Footscray to Albion. Works will transform Sunshine into a superhub, putting it at the heart of rail upgrades in Melbourne's west, as well as building new modern and accessible stations at Tottenham and Albion.

We're building a new Tottenham Station that will feature a new underpass, separated from Ashley Street, providing easier and safer connections to the station from both sides of the busy rail lines.

Early designs are available. Community feedback, alongside technical and engineering requirements, will help shape final designs that will be released next year.

The new station will be delivered as part of the West Footscray to Albion Rail Upgrade, the first stage of Melbourne Airport Rail.

The upgrade will untangle Melbourne's most complex rail junction outside the CBD and unlock capacity for 1000 daily train services through Sunshine.

Removing the bottleneck at Sunshine will also make space for dedicated tracks and platforms servicing future trains to the airport and electrified Melton trains.

Melbourne Airport Rail Stage 1: West Footscray to Albion Rail Upgrade will be complete in 2030.

Tottenham Station precinct updates

Access to the new station will be improved with a new underpass, separated from Ashley Street. With a new underpass from Rupert Street to Sunshine Road, passengers will be able to park in the Rupert Street or Sunshine Road car parks and conveniently walk through to lifts and stairs connecting to the central platform above. The lifts will accommodate mobility scooters, wheelchairs and prams. Additional shelters on the platforms will provide passengers with shelter from the weather all year round. The new Tottenham Station will be designed to maximise natural light. The station precinct will incorporate new landscaping. The new station will be located about 20 metres north and 60 metres west of the station’s current position, aligning with the new location of the Sunbury Line, with trains running through to the Metro Tunnel.
