About the Construction Liaison Group

The Sunshine Superhub Construction Liaison Group (CLG) provides an opportunity for community members to receive project updates, share local knowledge and provide feedback as planning and construction progress.

The CLG consists of volunteer community members who represent the views and interests of local residents, businesses and community organisations.

Members will provide:

• a local perspective, particularly about managing construction impacts on the community
• local knowledge to support discussions about project planning and construction
• information to their communities about the project and upcoming activities.

The CLG will continue to meet as the Sunshine Superhub project progresses.

Meeting summaries

Meeting 1: Monday 27 July 2026

The Sunshine Superhub Construction Liaison Group met for the first time to hear the latest updates about the Sunshine Superhub and discuss opportunities for ongoing community input.

The project team provided an overview of Melbourne Airport Rail Stage 1 including the proposed project area, early station designs and artist impressions of the future Sunshine Superhub.

Members heard that the designs will continue to be refined as the project progresses, with landscaping, public spaces, accessibility and connections to the surrounding area forming an important part of the next stage of design.

The group also received an update on current and upcoming works, including activities associated with the jet fuel pipeline and discussed how the project will work to minimise impacts on the local community during construction.

Topics discussed included:

• Station accessibility, including lifts and pedestrian connections.
• Pedestrian and cycling connections around the station precinct.
• Landscaping, greening and opportunities to retain trees.
• Environmental areas and vegetation.
• Heritage considerations, including the former signal box.
• Construction impacts on pedestrians, cyclists, road users and nearby businesses.
• Traffic management and maintaining access during construction.
• Safety, lighting and security.
• Impacts on traders and local businesses.
• Land acquisition and project boundaries.
• How the community will be informed about upcoming works.

Community members also shared the topics they would like to continue discussing as the project progresses, including heritage, accessibility, active transport, environmental outcomes, traffic management, local business impacts and maintaining community access during construction.

Meeting 2: Monday 12 October 2026

The Sunshine Superhub Construction Liaison Group met for the second time to hear updates on the Sunshine Superhub project and provide feedback on safety, accessibility, environmental and heritage considerations.

The project team provided an update on current and upcoming works, including utility relocations, site investigations and the completion of jet fuel pipeline works. Members discussed construction impacts, temporary road closures and opportunities to improve communication with residents about upcoming disruptions.

Members heard about how safety is being considered in the design of the future Sunshine Superhub, including input from station staff, Council and emergency services. Members participated in an interactive discussion using project maps to identify opportunities to improve safety, access and public spaces around the station precinct.

The project team also provided an overview of environmental and heritage considerations, including the protection of significant ecological areas, built heritage and Aboriginal cultural heritage, and ongoing engagement with Traditional Owners.

Topics discussed in the meeting included:

• Construction activities, road closures and advance notification of works.
• Traffic congestion and potential changes to traffic movements around Hampshire Road.
• Pedestrian safety, crossing points and cycling connections.
• Lighting, visibility and security around the station and bus interchange.
• Opportunities to activate public spaces and support community events.
• Maintenance of public spaces, including graffiti prevention and drainage.
• Heritage considerations, including the former signal box and H.V. McKay Memorial Gardens.
• Protection of significant vegetation and ecological areas, including Sunshine Triangle and Kororoit Creek.
• Opportunities to improve communication with residents affected by construction.

The feedback will help inform ongoing project planning, design and community engagement as the Sunshine Superhub progresses.
