18 February 2026
We are delivering stage one of Melbourne Airport Rail, with the Australian and Victorian governments investing more than $4 billion to deliver the Sunshine Superhub, creating space for a rail line to the airport and an electrified Melton Line. The project will also build a new modern and accessible Albion Station.
In preparation for major construction works on the Sunshine Superhub, bridge assessments will occur on the Hampshire Road bridge in Sunshine at night on Saturday 28 February until early morning, Sunday 1 March, with a detour in place.
What we’re doing
- From 9pm, Saturday 28 February until 7am, Sunday 1 March, we will close an eastbound lane to traffic on Hampshire Road bridge travelling to Harvester Road. Eastbound traffic travelling to Station Place will remain open across the bridge.
What to expect
- Traffic management will be in place to direct traffic to Station Place and Withers Street.
- Work crews will be assessing the bridge from the roadside and rail corridor.
Changes to the way you travel
- The Hampshire Road bridge will be closed to traffic, with a detour available over the bridge onto Station Place and Withers Street.
- Allow an extra 5 minutes’ travel time.
