12 February 2026
We are delivering stage one of Melbourne Airport Rail, with the Australian and Victorian governments investing more than $4 billion to deliver the Sunshine Superhub, creating space for a rail line to the airport and an electrified Melton Line. The project will also build a new modern and accessible Albion Station.
In preparation for major construction works on the Sunshine Superhub, a number of major underground utilities services need to be relocated. As we prepare to carry out these works, there will be changes in the Sunshine and Albion area.
What we’re doing
Through February and March in the below locations, we will:
Albion Station commuter car park
- Continue setting up site compounds with fencing and a generator
- Continue delivering equipment and machinery to site, including long pipes
- Conduct utility services investigations
- Excavate a drill entry point and start underground drilling
Sunshine Station precinct
- Utility services investigations
- Install track monitoring equipment
Sunshine Road/Sunshine Orchid Reserve
- Continue setting up a generator-powered site compound for worker facilities
- Continue delivering equipment and machinery to site
- Conduct utility service and geo-tech investigations
- Install track monitoring equipment
- Excavate a drill entry point and start underground drilling
What to expect
- an increase in work crews, machinery and construction vehicles (including trucks) in the area
- new site compounds within the Albion Station commuter car park and Sunshine Orchid Reserve, including lighting and power generators
- low to high levels of construction noise at various times during the day, as well as dust and vibration
When we’ll work
Standard working hours
- Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm
- Saturdays, 7am to 1pm
Works outside standard hours
Daily from 6am to 6pm, commencing in late February until July 2026, the project will conduct underground drilling at the Albion Station commuter car park and the Sunshine Orchid Reserve sites.
This includes Sundays and public holidays. Due to this drilling work being underground, noise, vibration, and dust impacts for local residents are not expected.
Night works
In March, we will work at night in the rail corridor between Tottenham and Albion stations when trains are not running to undertake investigations and minor works.
- 8pm to 6am, Monday 2 March to Wednesday 4 March
- 8pm to 6am, Saturday 14 March to Monday 16 March
