We are delivering stage 1 of Melbourne Airport Rail, with the Australian and Victorian governments investing more than $4 billion to deliver 6km of major rail upgrades from West Footscray to Albion. The works will include transforming Sunshine into a transport superhub and building new modern and accessible stations at Tottenham and Albion.

We’re continuing to relocate underground utilities within the Sunshine Station precinct, helping clear the way for a new rail line to the airport and the redevelopment of the station.

In June and July, there will be temporary disruptions in the area while Telstra relocation works take place.

What we're doing

  • Investigating underground utility services
  • Excavating to relocate underground telecommunications services
  • Installing new cables for telecommunications services
  • Cable hauling, splicing and testing cable

What to expect

  • work crews, machinery and construction vehicles (including trucks) in the area
  • low to high levels of construction noise at various time, as well as dust and vibration

When we'll work

Standard working hours:

  • Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm

Changes to the way you travel

For your safety, please follow signage and traffic management in place.

Laneway north of City Place

From Wednesday 10 June to mid July:

  • A trench will be dug through the middle of the laneway to relocate underground telecommunications services.
  • As a result, the laneway will be closed 7am to 5pm from Wednesday 10 June to mid July. It will remain open outside of work hours, including on weekends.
  • There will be no parking in the laneway, access to the private car park or deliveries during these work hours. Pedestrian access through the laneway will be maintained and rubbish collections will not be affected.

Footpath in front of 10 Sun Crescent

From Wednesday 10 June to late 2026:

  • Work will take place at a pit on the footpath in front of 10 Sun Crescent. While the footpath will not close, it will be narrowed.
  • Please note, the bus stop at this location has been temporarily relocated approximately 70m north on Sun Crescent.
