5 October 2026

We are delivering stage 1 of Melbourne Airport Rail, with the Australian and Victorian governments investing more than $4 billion to deliver 6km of major rail upgrades from West Footscray to Albion. The works will include transforming Sunshine into a transport superhub and building new modern and accessible stations at Tottenham and Albion.

During October, we'll continue removing redundant rail infrastructure from the rail corridor and sheet piling works near Ashley Street to prepare the ground for the new pedestrian underpass at Tottenham Station. Some sheet piling works will be undertaken during the day and at night in late October.

What we’re doing

  • Sheet piling near Ashley Street, including at nights in late October in preparation for the new pedestrian underpass at Tottenham Station.
  • Removing redundant tracks and associated rail infrastructure within the rail corridor.
  • Installing new rail safety fencing along the rail corridor.
  • Continuing ground preparation, including levelling and placing crushed rock.
  • Delivering and removing materials, machinery and equipment using trucks and oversized vehicles.
  • Site investigations near Tottenham Station and along the rail corridor to locate underground services and survey conditions through the area.
