We're building a major new interchange at Bulleen Road that will connect an upgraded Eastern Freeway to the 6.5km North East Link tunnels in Bulleen.

To create the space for new ramps and the interchange, we're building a diversion at Bulleen Road. From late May there will be long term changes to how you access Bulleen Road and local areas.

Bulleen Road weekend closure and diversion

From 7:30pm on Friday 24 May until 5:30am on Monday 27 May, Bulleen Road will be closed between Thompsons Road and Carey Bulleen Sports Complex in both directions.

A detour will be in place via Thompsons and Manningham roads to keep you moving. Lane closures along Thompsons Road will be required at times.

Access to local schools, clubs and sporting grounds will remain open as we complete these works.

From 5:30am on Monday 27 May, we'll move traffic onto the new Bulleen Road diversion, subject to weather conditions.

February to April 2024

• overnight lane closures on Thompsons and Bulleen roads to remove traffic islands and adjust lanes

May 2024

• continued overnight lane closures on Bulleen and Thompsons roads
• 24/7 weekend closure of Bulleen Road between Thompsons Road and Carey Bulleen Sports Complex
• moving traffic onto the new Bulleen Road diversion.

Mid 2025

• further changes to Manningham Road westbound lanes as nearby tunnelling activities commence
• further changes to Bulleen Road bridge as bridge widening works commence.

Why are these changes necessary?

By building the Bulleen Road diversion now, we’ll ensure the road stays open as works on the new ramps and interchange on Bulleen Road progress. By creating space we can safely build most of the upgrade away from traffic and during the day. This will help road users plan their journeys ahead of time and reduce disruptions.

How long will the Bulleen Road diversion be in place?

The temporary diversion will remain in place until late 2025. You can expect more works on Bulleen Road as the project nears completion.

Will the shops on Bulleen Road be open?

Access to businesses on Bulleen Road will be maintained during these works.

How will I access where I need to go on Bulleen Road during works?

We'll maintain access to the Manningham Hotel & Club, Veneto Club, Bulleen Park, Carey Bulleen Sports Complex, and Marcellin College via the detour (see map on reverse side for detour routes).

How much longer will my trips be?

While Bulleen Road is closed please allow an extra 15 minutes when planning your journey.

Once Bulleen Road is reopened and traffic is travelling on the diversion, please leave a little earlier while drivers get used to the new traffic conditions.
