Upcoming works in Bulleen
Work is underway to build the new Bulleen Park & Ride
There have been significant changes at the Bulleen Park & Ride site over the last few months. Construction crews have been busy with earthworks and piling, as they prepare the area for the start of major construction in early 2022.
There are a number of activities planned from now until early 2022 in order to prepare the area to accommodate future traffic needs, as well as ensuring safe access to local roads.
For more information on these works please contact us or visit our website.
To date we have:
- prepared the site ready for construction
- installed permanent traffic controls on Thompsons Road and the Eastern Freeway entry ramp
- created site access from the Eastern Freeway entry ramp at Thompsons Road
- installed 102 concrete piles to support the car park structure

Works on Thompsons Road We will be moving above ground electrical cables and placing them below ground along Thompsons Road and Sandra Street in early 2022.
6. Worker car parking
A portion of the Bulleen Swim Centre car park will be used for worker car parking at Bulleen Park & Ride.
The Bulleen Park & Ride site will be taking a short break from works from Thursday 23 December 2021 to Tuesday 11 January 2022.
Staff will be on site to make sure the area is secured, and our environmental controls are in place during this time.
A green solution
The new park and ride will be built into the side of a natural, steep slope and covered by a green roof – Victoria’s first for a public transport hub. The design is a sustainable solution, with:
- solar panels for renewable energy
- rainwater collection for flushing toilets and watering on the green roof park
- green wall with climbing plants on the edge of the building
- a smaller project footprint.
While works have been progressing well on the new park and ride, we've also released updated designs for the North East Link Program.
On top of Victoria’s longest road tunnels, the North East Link Program will overhaul the Eastern Freeway with 6 express lanes from Chandler Highway to Middleborough Road and build Melbourne's first dedicated busway. We’ll also complete the Ring Road in Greensborough and create the North East Trail.
Melbourne’s first dedicated busway will make it quicker and easier to get to and from the city – reducing travel times for more than 6 million express bus trips a year.
The new Eastern Express Busway will be separated from the freeway from Doncaster to Hoddle Street, with buses travelling at up to 100km an hour, making it easier to get to and from the city on public transport. Including park and rides at Bulleen and Doncaster and a bus running every minute in the peak.
North East Link will include new technology on the Eastern Freeway and more than 45km of new lanes will work together to reduce travel times by up to 11 minutes.
Health and safety
Works are continuing safely on the North East Link Program with COVIDSafe plans in place to help protect workers and the community. Strict processes are in place to check and record the vaccination status of workers entering construction sites.
