Frequently Asked Questions about the PRS
A Pressure Reducing Station (PRS) contains valves and plumbing that control and stabilise water pressure before it is distributed through the network. This helps prevent damage to pipes, ensures steady water flow, and supports efficient water delivery to homes and businesses.
The PRS plays a key role in maintaining a safe and effective water supply for the community.
The location was determined in consultation with Yarra Valley Water as the asset owner, officers from Manningham City Council and nearby residents. The proposed site was selected with consideration to its proximity to existing infrastructure, ease of access and its ability to accommodate the new PRS with a suitable distance from the sports oval boundary line and playground.
The PRS structure will be 4m wide, 2m tall and 7m deep. It will not generate noise as there are no mechanical pumps or generators and most of the pipework is underground.
In response to community feedback, the PRS structure has been reduced in size to reduce the visual impact of the unit in the reserve.
After construction, the area will be reinstated and landscaped with small trees and vegetation.
We will share updated landscaping plans with the community. These plans will add more plants and greenery around the site.
The landscaping design will be prepared in collaboration with Council to ensure all relevant requirements for community and safety are met and integration into the surrounds is considered.
The PRS is owned and maintained by Yarra Valley Water. Maintenance will be carried out on the unit approximately every six months and is not expected to be noisy. Activities will consist of general inspections, cleaning and testing to ensure the asset is functioning and performing well.
The PRS is positioned far enough away to make sure the playground can be used safely and without any restrictions.
A new driveway and safety bollards will keep maintenance access separate from the playground, ensuring there is no interruption to park users and are not put at risk.
The PRS will not interfere with any future plans for the reserve.
Construction for the PRS is expected to start in late January 2026.
Works will be during the day from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and 7am to 3pm on Saturdays.
