Works are progressing across all of our sites with foundations for structures and bridges beginning to form on the freeway shoulders and centre median.

Construction snapshot

From late July, we will be moving drivers onto new permanent Bulleen Road lanes to keep traffic moving while we connect the North East Link tunnels to the Eastern Freeway and build the Yarra Link green bridge.

You’ll also start to see the first new noise wall panels go up along the Eastern Freeway in Koonung Creek Reserve and on the eastern side of Elgar Road.

When are we working

Day works - 7am to 7pm from Monday to Friday and 7am to 3pm Saturdays and Sundays
Night works - 7pm to 7am from Monday to Saturday
Day / night works - at times during day and night works hours
24 24-hour works - (at times). Notification provided before works.

We will be in touch with impacted residents regarding specific times for construction actives.

Upcoming disruptions to the Eastern Freeway

The Eastern Freeway is set for major disruptions from late July as crews build new bridges over the freeway.

The Eastern Freeway will need to close for the first time since it was last upgraded in the 1990s, to build two new walking and cycling bridges over the Eastern Freeway at Heyington Avenue, Mont Albert North and Estelle Street, Bulleen.

There will be a series of overnight freeway closures between Bulleen and Doncaster roads from late July to September to safely install the new Estelle Street bridge.

Piling works to build bridge foundations for tunnel connection and busway bridges and retaining walls.

Asphalting, barrier placement, line marking, noise panel installation and traffic signal works for the new Bulleen Road bridge.
Delivery and installation of site compound buildings.
Telstra utility service relocation.
Bulk earthworks to remove the Bulleen Road diversion and back fill the Koonung Creek after being temporarily diverted.

Night works

Overnight ramp closures in preparation for upcoming new Bulleen Road bridge traffic switch.

Day works

Installation of deck modules and cables for the new Estelle Street Bridge.
Construction of temporary Ringwood-bound entry ramp in Doncaster Park and Ride.
Construction of temporary Doncaster Road citybound exit ramp.
Tree removal along the Doncaster Road citybound exit ramp.

Night works

Site and freeway investigations.
Asphalting, realigning barriers and line marking.

What to expect

Access and use of the Koonung Creek Reserve worksite day and night
Overnight machinery and material deliveries via the freeway
24/7 operation of a pump system to remove groundwater from the sewer shafts at Estelle Street and Willow Bend

Night works

Installation of beams for the new Doncaster Bridge.

Delivery of cranes and installation of precast panels for new
retaining walls.
Soil nail, piling, concrete and steel works and earthworks to build retaining walls.
Removing light poles and installing a hardstand near the Doncaster Road citybound exit ramp for the new Doncaster Road bridge.
Piling for the Doncaster Road bridge.

Night works

Establish a small construction compound on Massey street.

24 hour works

Tunneling works to relocate sewer mains near Hender and Massey streets.
