20 February 2025

We're upgrading the Eastern Freeway with new express lanes, new traffic management technology, Melbourne's first express busway and a seamless connection to North East Link.

We're upgrading freeway lighting and installing new on-road technology along the Eastern Freeway.

From Thursday 26 February to late March, we'll reduce the corner of Orion and Musca streets to one lane between Aquila and Libra streets, to ensure the safety of road users and workers. Traffic management will be in place to help safely guide you, and driveway access will remain available at all times.

We’ll excavate the area near the shared path at the bend of Orion and Musca streets to install underground cables and connect to the existing power board.

Once completed, we'll reinstate the area and return the corner of Orion and Musca reserve to its original traffic conditions.

Traffic conditions on Orion Street may change as works progress and we'll keep you informed ahead of any changes.

When and where

Day works: 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 3pm Saturdays.

All works are scheduled for during the day. If this changes, we'll let residents know about planned night works ahead of time.

Orion and Musca streets will return to normal traffic conditions each night.

What to expect

During these works, you'll notice:

  • changed traffic conditions and minor delays on Orion and Musca streets
  • changes to the Koonung Creek Trail with short detours in place
  • construction vehicles, machinery, equipment and workers in the area
  • moderate levels of noise, dust and vibration from machinery and equipment.

Managing impacts

We carefully manage our works in line with the project's strict environmental performance requirements, including:

  • traffic controllers and signage to help guide you around our works
  • ensuring driveway access is always maintained
  • monitoring noise, dust and vibrations levels with real time monitoring technology if required
  • preventing dust and water runoff using street sweepers and water carts.

Keeping in touch

We’ll be out talking to nearby residents about these works in more detail, including changes to traffic conditions, driveway access and how we'll be managing any local impacts. If you have any questions now, please contact the 24/7 Contact Centre on 1800 105 105.
