Day and night works in Bulleen

North East Link will fix the missing link in our city's freeway network, taking 15,000 trucks a day off local roads and reducing travel times by up to 35 minutes. Tunnelling is more than 80% complete and works on both sides of Bulleen Road continues.

What we'll be doing

Activities to support tunnelling works will take place 24/7. During this time, we’ll aim to minimise noise and light impacts away from your property as much as possible.

Marcellin College and Manningham Hotel & Club Access Road will be closed overnight, at times, during March Access will be available via Thompsons Road

Oversize deliveries

We'll be delivering large pre-cast panel beams and Super-T beams that will form part of the southern ventilation structure and roof of the tunnel.

Deliveries will occur between 10pm and 5am Mondays to Fridays, with up to 6 deliveries each night.

Most deliveries will arrive from the Eastern Freeway and Bulleen Road before entering our work site off Bulleen Road near the Carey Sports Complex.

Managing construction impacts

Throughout our works, you may experience noise, light, dust, and vibration. We manage these impacts through real time monitoring, water carts and street sweepers, targeted lighting, and reducing noise and vibration within the construction zone.

You may notice workers on local streets capturing photos as part of our ongoing management of these impacts. We do this in conjunction with our modelling to ensure we have an accurate understanding of how these impacts may be felt in different areas. We will notify you before capturing any photos that include your property and we are happy to provide these photos upon request.

You may also see workers machinery in place, in and around construction areas, workers completing surveys in local streets and an increase of trucks removing dirt from our worksites.

Upcoming disruptions across North East Link Program

Freeways, bridges and surrounding roads are starting to take shape above ground while tunnelling continues underground. Traffic disruptions are expected from Greensborough to the Eastern Freeway this April.

Upcoming disruptions include:

citybound lanes on the Eastern Freeway between Doncaster Road and Bulleen Road have been split into 2 sections under our new concrete structures until late 2026. Drivers travelling to Bulleen Road must be in the far-left lane to exit to Bulleen Road. To continue to the city, drivers need to be in the remaining 3 right lanes
the Eastern Freeway will be closed at times throughout April.

Elder Street

Closed in both directions between Greensborough Highway and Frensham Road from 9pm, Friday 10 April to mid May.

Pedestrian access will be maintained across Greensborough Highway during this time.
Greensborough Highway will have lane reductions at times southbound between Nell Street and Watsonia Road.
Bus Route 514 will operate via Greensborough Highway between Greensborough Station and Watsonia Station. A maxi taxi will operate between Greensborough Station and Watsonia Station to service closed bus stops during timetables hours.

Greensborough Bypass

Closed between Grimshaw Street and the M80 Ring Road interchange one weekend in May.

Kempston Street

Closed between Hamlet and Sellars streets:

from late April to early June there will be detours via Kempston Street, Pinehills Drive, Yando Street and Kalparrin Avenue.

We’re working hard to minimise disruptions to the local community. Please plan ahead and allow additional travel time.

Changes to Manningham Road in April

From 7pm, Thursday 9 April to 6am, Monday 20 April, southbound lanes on Bulleen Road, between Bridge Street and Manningham Road, will be closed during the day and night.

From 7pm to 6am, Thursday 9 April and Sunday 12 April, Bulleen Road will be closed in both directions in this location. Local access will remain open for Bulleen Road residents. Access to Mangan Street will be via Roberts Street.

Detours will be available during this time with delays of up to 15 minutes expected.

The Eastern Freeway will also be closed at times throughout April, with significant delays expected.
