16 October 2025
We're upgrading the Eastern Freeway with new express lanes, new traffic management technology, Melbourne's first express busway and a seamless connection to North East Link.
As part of the upgrade, we’ll build new overhead structures, noise walls, upgrade local walking and cycling paths, and build a new shared path underpass to fully separate pedestrians and cyclists from traffic in Bulleen.
What we're doing
We’ll create space for building new noise walls and the new underpass, we’ll realign the Bulleen Road citybound exit ramp. During this time, there will be overnight lane closures on the Bulleen Road citybound exit ramp. For the safety of our workers, we’ll carry out these works at night when traffic volumes are lower.
Where and when
- Night works: From Wednesday 22 October until early November between 9pm and 5am each night
During this time, we'll demolish concrete traffic islands, place new asphalt, carry out line marking, install underground traffic signal conduits and near the Bulleen citybound exit ramp and Bulleen Road. As works progress, additional night works may be required. We’ll ensure residents receive advanced notification of these works.
What to expect
- overnight lane closures on Bulleen Road citybound exit ramp and Bulleen Road
- construction vehicles, machinery, equipment and workers in the area
- traffic controllers and signage to guide motorists around our works
- medium levels of noise from machinery and equipment associated with concrete cutting and demolition works, asphalting and line marking works
- use of directional lighting
Managing impacts
We carefully manage our works in line with the project's strict Environmental Performance Requirements including:
- scheduling noisier works early in the evening, where possible
- monitoring noise levels with real time monitoring, when required
- minimising light spill with targeted lighting
- working behind barriers to keep our workers and road users safe
