10 April 2025
We're upgrading the Eastern Freeway with new express lanes, new traffic management technology, Melbourne's first express busway and a seamless connection to North East Link.
What we're doing
As part of works to build the new Doncaster Road interchange, we're building a temporary ramp to keep traffic flowing while we build a new Doncaster Road bridge. We're getting ready to move traffic onto the Doncaster Road citybound entry ramp from early May.
To prepare to open the temporary ramp, we'll continue to work at night along Doncaster Road to move barriers, place asphalt in new areas, install new traffic signals and adjust line marking. To complete works safely, there will be some overnight closures of the existing citybound entry ramp, speed reductions and lane closures along Doncaster Road.
When we'll work
We'll continue working at night along Doncaster Road from Monday 28 April to early May, between 7pm and 6am each night
Changed traffic conditions from early May
Once traffic has been moved to the temporary ramp, there will be changes to how you move around your area. Please refer to map overleaf for changes to the local area.
- The Doncaster Road/Eastern Freeway citybound entry ramp bus stop will be relocated to the temporary ramp.
What to expect
- Placing asphalt, moving barriers, adjusting line marking and traffic signal infrastructure along Doncaster Road. This will involve digging and saw cutting in some areas
- Changes to sections of the Koonung Creek Trail and relocation of PTV bus stops
- Some overnight citybound entry ramp closures and lane closures along Doncaster Road - check on road signage for dates and times
- Construction vehicles, trucks and workers in the area
- Noise, light towers, vibration and dust from machinery and equipment
The project’s environment team will actively monitor and manage these construction impacts to ensure best practice is applied throughout construction.
Managing impacts
We carefully manage our works in line with the project's strict environmental performance requirements including:
- Scheduling noisier works early in the evening, where possible
- Monitoring noise and vibration levels with real-time monitoring, when required
- Minimising light spill with targeted lighting
- Preventing dust and water runoff with environmental controls
- Working behind barriers to keep our workers and road users safe
