We're upgrading the Eastern Freeway with new express lanes, new traffic management technology, Melbourne's first express busway and a seamless connection to North East Link.

What We’re Doing

From late February to late March, we'll work at night to build the foundations of the Ringwood-side of the new Doncaster Road bridge.

We'll be using a technique called 'bored piling'. This involves using a piling rig to drill holes into the ground, that will be filled with steel cages and concrete. The piles will form part of the foundations of the new Doncaster Road bridge.

We'll then begin working on the base of the new bridge. This work involves building structural concrete piers that will support new steel beams for the road.

The Doncaster Road interchange will be opened to traffic in late 2026. Once open, it will accommodate 10 lanes of traffic on the bridge and provide space underneath for 6 express lanes and Melbourne's first dedicated busway.

Where and when

We'll work during the day and at night within our worksite from Monday to Saturday.

Day works: 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 3pm Saturday

Night works: 7pm to 6am from Monday to Friday

What to expect

• Noise, dust and vibration from machinery and equipment
• Medium levels of noise
• Changes to on-road traffic conditions including potential ramp and lane closures on the freeway and Doncaster Road. Traffic management will be in place to assist motorists.

Managing impacts

• Monitoring noise, dust and vibration levels during works
• Use of watercarts and street sweepers to reduce dust and mud on roads
• Completing noisier works earlier in the night, when possible
• Directing lighting away from residential properties
• Signage, traffic controllers and detours in place to guide drivers and pedestrians around the area during works
• We'll be in touch directly with local residents nearby to the works
