8 April 2026

We're upgrading the Eastern Freeway with new express lanes, new traffic management technology, Melbourne's first express busway and a seamless connection to North East Link.

What we're doing

Throughout April and May, we'll continue building the Ringwood side of the Doncaster Road bridge, the walking and cycling underpass and the express busway connecting directly to an upgraded Doncaster Park and Ride.

By mid 2026 you'll start to see the new bridge take shape as the structural beams arrive on site for installation.

These beams will form the base of the new bridge, which will then be reinforced with bridge flooring, followed by concrete pours and asphalt for the new road surface.

We'll be working in several areas around the Doncaster Road interchange and this provides a lookahead to the upcoming work activities you can expect.

  • Construction vehicles, machinery and workers in the area
  • Medium to high levels of noise, dust and vibration from machinery and equipment
  • Site access and deliveries via the Eastern Freeway
  • Lane closures at times along the Eastern Freeway, Doncaster Road and Elgar Road

Managing impacts

  • Monitoring noise, dust and vibration levels with real time monitoring, when required
  • Preventing dust and water runoff using regular water carts and street sweepers
  • Completing noisier works earlier in the night or using particular machinery to reduce noise where possible
  • Use of directional lighting when working at night
