18 August 2025

We're upgrading the Eastern Freeway with new express lanes, new traffic management technology, Melbourne's first express busway and a seamless connection to North East Link.

What we're doing

The existing Pressure Reducing Station (PRS) at Doncaster Road needs to be relocated to enable the new Doncaster Road bridge to be built. Watermain upgrades have started along Ayr Street and will then move into Timber Ridge to ultimately connect with a new PRS that will be in Timber Ridge Reserve.

Outcomes of a separate consultation process about the ultimate location of the PRS within the Reserve, will be shared with residents in a separate notification.

We'll need to undertake preparatory works to upgrade the local water network by installing water mains in the roadway at Timber Ridge, Doncaster. We'll partially close sections of Timber Ridge during the day for approximately 3 weeks to complete the watermain installation. Crews will reinstate the area and reopen the road at the end of each shift.

Residents will continue to have access to their properties with traffic controllers on site to assist. There will be no daytime on-street parking from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 3pm Saturdays within the road closure and along the reserve in Timber Ridge.

  • These works will not affect your garbage collection
  • Water service disruptions are not planned during works, however if required, Yarra Valley Water will notify affected properties
The final location of the PRS will be communicated to residents ahead of works on the Station commencing in Timber Ridge Reserve.

From late August to October, we will:

  • Install signage, barriers and use traffic management personnel to detour pedestrians around the works
  • Dig launch and retrieval shafts on Timber Ridge
  • Complete drilling for the new watermain alignment
  • Install new watermain pipes in sections with partial road closures in place
  • Store pipes on nature strips and complete digging with a high-pressure hose when installing new watermains
  • Install a laydown area in Timber Ridge Reserve for worker parking, machinery storage and amenities
  • Complete connection works into the Pressure Reducing Station using open-cut trenching
  • Landscape and reinstate the road once works are complete.

Partial closures will be between the following streets on Timber Ridge:

  • Ayr Street to St Malo Street
  • St Malo Street to Marilyn Street.

When are we working

  • Day works - 7am to 6pm from Monday to Friday and 7am to 3pm Saturdays
  • Night works - 7pm to 6am from Monday to Sunday.

24/7 works will be required over 2-3 nights when we complete open-cut trenching at the Timber Ridge and Ayr Street intersection to connect into the existing watermain infrastructure. This will require an intersection closure of Timber Ridge and Ayr Street. We'll be out talking to residents and businesses before these works start.

What to expect

  • Partial road closures and detours for motorists
  • Pedestrian detours around worksites
  • Resident access to properties will be maintained via local detours and traffic management
  • Speed reductions on Ayr Street and Timber Ridge to 40 km/hr
  • Construction vehicles, machinery and workers in the area
  • Medium levels of noise, dust and vibration from machinery and equipment
  • Use of directional lighting in the work site when working at night.

Managing impacts

  • Traffic controllers on site to manage access for residents located within the partial closures
  • Monitoring noise, dust and vibration levels with real time monitoring, when required
  • Preventing dust and water runoff with environmental controls.
