Upcoming works – Tram to Springvale roads

We’re upgrading the Eastern Freeway with new express lanes, new Eastern Busway, smart technology and a connection to North East Link — slashing travel times and improving travel in Melbourne’s east.

What we're doing

We're continuing to establish safe work areas next to the freeway and a construction compound in Junction Road Reserve, Nunawading. To keep construction traffic off local roads, we're building site access from the freeway.

Works to relocate power and sewer services continue between Tram and Springvale roads.

When are we working?

Day works: 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 1pm Saturdays.
Night works: 7pm to 6am at times Monday to Sunday

We use water carts, noise blankets and street sweepers wherever possible to reduce dust, mud tracking and noise while we work. We'll be in touch with impacted residents regarding specific times for construction activities.

Springvale Road citybound entry ramp closed until 11.59pm, Friday 24 April and from 10pm, Friday 1 May to 5am, Monday 4 May
Eastern Freeway closed citybound between Middleborough and Elgar roads from 11pm, Friday 15 May to 6am, Saturday 16 May
Eastern Freeway closed Ringwood-bound between Elgar and Middleborough roads from 11.59pm, Saturday 16 May to 8am, Sunday 17 May
Koonung Creek Trail closed in sections with long term diversions in place Schedule is subject to change.

Building shared path diversions, including a temporary extension to the Eram Road bridge

Sewer testing and relining.

Ground preparation works to strengthen the ground for heavy machinery
Tunnelling and shaft construction for sewer relocations and drainage
Trenching for power relocation works
Removing sections of existing noise walls
Piling for new retaining walls and noise walls.

Day/night works:

Tree and vegetation removal.

What to expect

Traffic controllers and signage, including intermittent stop and hold arrangements for pedestrians and cyclists
Construction vehicles and equipment in the area
