14 July 2026

We’re completing the M80 Ring Road, delivering new lanes from Plenty Road to Watsonia, including a seamless connection to the North East Link tunnels, taking up to 15,000 trucks off local roads a day.

What you need to know

Major work is continuing on Grimshaw Street from July through to mid 2027, as we build an upgraded Grimshaw Street Interchange.

During this time, we’ll also complete essential utility and finishing works on the west side of the Grimshaw Street interchange. Grimshaw Street will be closed between Macorna Street and the Greensborough Bypass over a weekend, with detours in place to keep motorists and pedestrians moving safely.

In July, Grimshaw Street will be closed temporarily between Macorna Street and the Greensborough Bypass for one weekend as we complete essential utility and finishing works to complete the west side of the Grimshaw Street Interchange. Local access will be maintained.

In August, we'll close Grimshaw Street overnight on a weekend between the Greensborough Bypass and William Street to install signage gantries.

In September, the way you travel through the Greensborough Bypass, Greensborough Highway and Grimshaw Street intersection will change.

Temporary signalised U-turns will be introduced to maintain traffic flow while crews excavate the new express lanes for the North East Link tunnels and build the new Grimshaw Street bridge. This travel arrangement will be in place until mid 2027.

To prepare, there will be a weekend closure across key approaches to the intersection. Grimshaw Street intersection will be closed between Fyre Street and the Greensborough Bypass, and between Greensborough Road and the Greensborough Bypass for one weekend as we continue upgrading Grimshaw Street.

When we’ll be working

We'll carry out most of our works during the day, although some night works will be required.

When we’re required to work at night near homes and businesses, we’ll provide advance notice.

Managing construction impacts

We manage our works responsibly in line with strict project requirements including:

  • keeping residents and businesses informed when work is happening nearby
  • using clear signage and traffic controls to safely guide drivers, cyclists and pedestrians
  • securing worksites with fencing, barriers and safety measures
  • monitoring and managing noise, dust, and vibration levels in real time
  • minimising light spill with carefully directed lighting
  • implementing environmental controls to prevent dust and water run-off
  • containing workforce parking within designated worksites.

What to expect

What to expect while we are working:

  • machinery, equipment and vehicle noise, light, dust and occasional vibration at times
  • ies to worksites, including outside of standard work hours
  • light and heavy vehicle movements on local streets, and lane, ramp and road closures.

Grimshaw Street intersection changes

Changes are coming to the Greensborough Bypass, Greensborough Highway and Grimshaw Street intersection.

From mid September this year to mid 2027, temporary signalised U-turns will help maintain traffic flow while works continue on the North East Link express lanes and new Grimshaw Street bridge.
