9 October 2025
We’re completing the M80 Ring Road, delivering new lanes through to Plenty Road and a seamless connection to the North East Link tunnels – taking 19,000 cars and trucks a day off Greensborough Road and giving local roads back to local people
What you need to know
From October to mid-December, we’ll work 24/7 on Grimshaw Street to construct the new Grimshaw Street Interchange.
There will be changes to the way you travel in this area while we complete these works, including buses replacing trains on sections of the Hurstbridge line throughout October.
Works continue on the M80 Ring Road between Plenty Road and Greensborough Bypass while we move lanes to open up new areas to continue construction of the new interchange.
From early October, access to the Watsonia Station car park will shift south on Greensborough Highway and will become a one-way entry and exit to make space for the Elder Street landscaped bridge. The station bus stop will be relocated south of its current location
Transport disruptions
Grimshaw Street is closed in sections between Greensborough Bypass and William/Adeline streets from 12.01am, Tuesday 30 September to 5am, Saturday 1 November. Detours are in place via Greensborough Bypass, Diamond Creek Road, Main Street and The Circuit. From early-November until mid-December, Grimshaw Street will be closed between Macorna Street/Watsonia Road with detours in place.
At times, there’ll be lane and road closures on sections of the M80 Ring Road between Plenty Road and Greensborough Bypass, and on Greensborough Highway near Elder Street.
Expect intermittent lane, ramp and road closures, and speed reductions at night and on weekends. Buses are replacing trains on sections of the Hurstbridge Line from 8.30pm Tuesday 30 September to last service Thursday 30 October.
