We're upgrading the Eastern Freeway with a new Eastern Busway, better walking and cycling paths, smart traffic technology and a connection to North East Link — slashing travel times and improving travel in Melbourne's east.
What we're doing
Major construction is continuing along the Eastern Freeway between Hoddle Street and Burke Road.
Crews are building new lanes on the freeway, connecting underground services to new freeway lighting and progressing foundations for the future Eastern Busway bridge at Chandler Highway and the new Ringwoodbound exit ramp at Burke Road.
We’ll also begin piling works near the Yarra River to install foundations for the future walking and cycling bridge over the Yarra River, with strict environmental controls in place as we work.
We use water carts, street sweepers and noise blankets wherever possible to reduce dust, mud tracking and noise. Qualified ecologists will monitor and manage flora, fauna and waterway protection on site, and traffic management will be used to safely guide road users during lane or road closures.
